Donald R. Jasinski, MD, is Chief of the Center for Chemical Dependency, Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. Dr. Jasinski was the first scientist to recognize the characteristics of buprenorphine, developed in the 1970s as an injectable pain medication, as useful for addiction treatment. His work led to the successful development of Suboxone and Subutex, versions of buprenorphine to treat opioid dependence.
